In-Depth Flight Experience
Airport Experience

This trip starts off in Terminal 3 of Changi Airport, where I checked-in for my flight. After a rather fast check-in process, I breezed through immigration, and was soon in the transit area of Changi Airport.

SilverKris Lounge Experience

I made my way to the SilverKris Lounge, where I was greeted by a lounge attendant and had my boarding pass scanned. Soon enough, I was inside the lounge.

The lounge was big and spacious, and had quite a good view of the tarmac and runway.

Breakfast in the Lounge

I ate quite a large breakfast in the lounge. It comprised of a croissant, a piece of bacon, as well as scrambled eggs and a hash brown. I also opted for a bowl of Singapore Laksa. I got a glass of sparkling water as well.

While the laksa was great, unfortunately the western breakfast option was subpar at best. It lacked flavor and was really dry. After a cup of hot tea, I proceeded to my boarding gate.

Boarding and Takeoff

When I reached the gate, boarding had already commenced, so I made my way to the upper deck boarding, onto the superjumbo.

Once I boarded the aircraft, I was directed to my seat, 16A. My first impressions of the seat were spacious, and the purple seats and purple lighting really fit the mood. It was certainly a well-retrofitted aircraft.

I was warmly welcomed onboard by the In-Flight Manager (IFM) and offered a pre-departure beverage. I opted for the orange juice. After 25 minutes, boarding was completed, and the aircraft started pushback. Not long after, we were taxiing onto runway 20R, and it had started raining again.

The aircraft started its takeoff roll, and soon the aircraft was airborne, headed to Hong Kong.

In-Flight Meal Service

Once cruising altitude was reached, the meal service began. I was first served an appetizer of smoked salmon, which was nice but quite dry. I also opted for a glass of sparkling water.

After the plate was cleared, I was served the main course: Beef Steak. It was really nice and tender, but slightly undercooked unfortunately. The mashed potatoes and vegetables at the side were really nice though.

After the main course, I opted for the chocolate cake as dessert. It was heavenly - creamy, sweet, and slightly bitter at the same time. It was probably one of the best desserts I have ever had in the skies.

Aircraft Exploration

After the meal, I decided to explore the aircraft a little bit. I walked to the rear stairs, and went downstairs to take a look at the economy class. Even in economy, there was ample space and legroom - definitely a great product even for long-haul.

Nap and Entertainment

Before we arrived in Hong Kong, I decided to take a short nap with the seat that could be transformed into a fully flat bed.

After waking up from the 30-minute nap, I decided to watch a few TV shows while admiring the views outside the window.

Landing and Conclusion

Not long after, the pilot started descending into Hong Kong International, meaning my journey would soon come to an end. After around half an hour, the aircraft made a smooth touchdown on runway 07R.

The aircraft taxied to its gate, and this marked the end of this journey.

So, what did I think of this flight?

It was a special experience, and one of the most memorable flights I have been on. The crew was attentive and always friendly and helpful. The food was not bad, though some parts could definitely be improved. This was overall a good experience, however, and this product is definitely better than the 2006 Business Class seats on the A380.

Cost and Final Score

I paid around $750 one way for this flight, and it was booked with a discount. Saver Tickets are normally sold out even if you are booking 6 months in advance, as this is one of the busiest routes operated by Singapore Airlines. I would recommend you book SIN-HKG flights as soon as you have confirmed your trip, as tickets can get pretty costly.
