Starting June 26th, United Airlines will introduce new flights connecting Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
The new route will operate three times daily, with Republic Airways flying under the United Express brand. The aircraft servicing this route will be the United Embraer E175, offering a two-class configuration with 12 seats in first class and 60 in economy.
However, this addition will lead to the discontinuation of the airline's current route between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
United Airlines will become the sole carrier operating between IAD and PHL with the introduction of the new service. Meanwhile, American Airlines currently serves the two cities, flying between Philadelphia International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) four times daily.
United's hub at Newark Liberty International Airport provides passengers from regional airports with a more diverse choice of international connections compared to its Washington Dulles hub. This includes a growing number of transatlantic routes such as the upcoming service to Faro International Airport (FAO) in Portugal, commencing on May 24th.
