A Saurya Airlines Bombardier CRJ-200 crashed during takeoff at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (VNKT/KTM) in Nepal on 24 July 2024, at about 11am local time. 19 people were on board the Pokhara-bound flight as part of a routine maintenance check.
The crash was due to a runway excursion. The flight was carrying only technical crew, and did not carry any passengers. Apart from the captain of the flight, all other 18 crew have been confirmed dead. The captain is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
17 of the casualties were Nepalese while one was a Yemeni national.
Photos show search and rescue workers walking in the debris of the aircraft, with most parts of the plane completely blackened and charred. Photos of the aftermath also appeared to show parts of the plane inside an air freight container.
