[UPDATE] (8 May 2024): The pilot involved in this incident has been hospitalised.
A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pilot successfully ejected from an F-16 fighter jet, which subsequently crashed inside Singapore's Tengah Air Base.
The incident happened at about 12.35pm local time, said the Ministry of Defence in Singapore. It also added that "the pilot responded in accordance with emergency procedures" after an "issue during takeoff" occurred.
The pilot successfully ejected from the fighter jet and the plane crashed within the air base. The Ministry added that the pilot is in a stable condition and is currently hospitalised.
This is the first hull loss of an RSAF aircraft in 20 years. There has not been a crash since May 2004. This also marks the 4th F-16 hull loss within the Air Force.
