On October 18 this year, Cathay Pacific debuted its first retrofitted Boeing 777 with new and refreshed cabins. The aircraft is currently operating one of Cathay’s regional ro ute, from Hong Kong (HKG/VHHH) to Beijing (PEK/ZBAA). The 777s will be retrofitted with new business, premium economy, and economy class products.
The new business class product in the retrofitted 777s is known as the Aria Suite, Cathay Pacific's new next-generation business class. The suite features more privacy with a sliding door partition, which is a significant upgrade from their current seats.
The new seats, which double up as a lie-flat bed, also feature comfortable wool ethically sourced by a German brand, rohi. It features customisable and individual lighting allowing passengers to decide their own lighting and mood while not affecting other passengers.
Cathay also upgraded their business class screens from 17” HD resolution screens to the new 24” 4K screens. Some other features in the new seats are wireless charging, more storage and also more dining options.
Finally, Cathay Pacific also unveiled their “Gallery in the skies”. Every retrofitted 777-300ER will include an artwork by an artist with a deep connection to Hong Kong.
Next up, is the refreshed premium economy class product. Cathay Pacific also increased the privacy of passengers in premium economy by including 2 head-supports which also comes with a built-in reading light.
The premium economy seats also have more recline, legroom, and space compared to the old premium economy product. Similar to business class, the new premium economy features an upgraded 15.6” widescreen 4K screen. Cathay also partnered with restaurants like Pirata and Veda to better it's dining experience, including improved coffee and tea selections.
Finally, the new economy class. Cathay did not focus too much on upgrading the product but it still features refined seats and an award-winning entertainment system. Passengers can check lavatory occupancy, a great feature that could enhance efficiency; pair personal headphones or earphones using Bluetooth, which is another great feature.
In addition, passengers can now sync their inflight entertainment like movies, with their partner, allowing them to watch movies with each other. Other features like touch-free features in lavatories minimise contact with surfaces.
Cathay is set to utilise these planes on regional routes like Beijing, Tokyo and Singapore before expanding to further routes in Europe and the US.
