A plane part of the Paul Bennet Airshows was performing aerobatic manoeuvres when it crashed on 28 March, 2025, on the first day of the biennial Avalon Airshow.
The aircraft impacted with the ground, and the aircraft could be seen breaking apart on the ground. Emergency responders could be seen at the site of the crash shortly after the accident.
The aircraft was attempting to do a loop. It was diving towards the ground and failed to pull up, resulting in a collision with the ground at 5.17pm local time. The pilot is reported to be in critical but stable condition now and is awaiting treatment at a hospital. He was rushed into an ambulance before being transferred onto a medical evacuation helicopter to be transported to the hospital.
The Friday Night Alight segment, along with the rest of the shows on Friday night of the Avalon Airshow 2025 has been cancelled following the unfortunate accident.
The airshow organiser said in a statement: "The pilot is in a serious but stable condition and has been transferred to hospital for treatment. The incident occurred well away from the crowds in attendance and no member of the public was injured. The Avalon Australian International Airshow concluded the day’s activities to allow the Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigation team to have full and free access to the site. We are continuing with preparations to recommence the airshow tomorrow morning."
The Avalon International Airshow is held at Avalon Airport in Victoria every two years. This year's iteration is from March 25 to March 30, the final 3 of which are public days. It is considered one of the largest airshows in the southern hemisphere and mainly focuses on military aviation.
Project AeroFlight wishes the pilot a speedy recovery.
