Aircraft Orders from Dubai Airshow 2023

Today (17 November 2023) concludes the Dubai Airshow 2023. As this event draws to a close, let us take a look at the new aircraft orders of different airlines during this event.

Day 1 (13 November 2023)

The event started off with SunExpress, a low-cost carrier based in Turkey, placing an order for the Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts. This included 45 firm orders, and 45 more yet to be confirmed.


Emirates to increase its order of the Boeing 777X; adds Boeing 787 to fleet

Emirates has ordered an additional 90 Boeing 777X, on top of the previous order of 115 777X. This would make Emirates the biggest Boeing 777X operator. On top of that, Emirates has also placed an order for 20 Boeing 787-8s, and 15 Boeing 787-10s. A total of 35 Boeing 787 aircrafts will be added to their fleet.


FlyDubai orders 30 Boeing 787-9s

FlyDubai, a low-cost carrier in Dubai, has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 aircrafts, which will be delivered in 2026. This would be the first widebodies in the previously narrow-body only fleet.


AirBaltic orders 30 more Airbus A220s


An AirBaltic A220-300.


AirBaltic, a Latvian carrier, has placed a firm order for 30 more Airbus A220s, as well as a purchase right for 20 more of the particular aircraft. This makes them the largest A220 operator currently.


Royal Jordanian orders 6 Boeing 787-9 aircrafts

Royal Jordanian Airlines has ordered 6 Boeing 787-9 aircrafts, and also signed a fleet connectivity retrofit agreement with Boeing.


Royal Air Maroc increases the number of orders for its Boeing 787-9

Royal Air Maroc has placed a firm order for an additional 2 Boeing 787-9s. Previously, it was listed as an “unidentified customer” in Boeing’s order book.



Day 2 (14 NOVEMBER 2023)

EgyptAir has announced on the second day of Dubai AirShow that it has placed an order for 10 Airbus A350-900 aircrafts, as it plans to use the more fuel-efficient aircraft in the near future.


Ethiopian Orders a total of 67 new Boeing aircrafts

Ethiopian Airlines has ordered new Boeing 737 MAX and Boeing 787 aircrafts, with 31 confirmed orders. This comprises 11 Boeing 787-9s, as well as 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

SCAT Airlines, which is an airline based in Kazakhstan, has ordered 7 more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircrafts, which will further increase its fleet, which is currently the largest in Kazakhstan.


Day 3 (15 November 2023)


Ethiopian Airlines orders another 11 A350-900s

Ethiopian, after ordering over 60 aircrafts from Boeing the previous day, placed an order for 11 more Airbus A350-900s, which will make Ethiopian the African carrier with the largest fleet of the Airbus A350.


Day 4 (16 November 2023)

Emirates, on day 4 of the Dubai Airshow, has just announced a firm order for yet another 15 Airbus A350-900s, without any orders for the A350-1000. This came unsurprisingly after the Emirates President criticised the Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines on the -1000, claiming it was ‘defective’.
